DISCOVER ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL
DID YOU KNOW?
Today is the memorials of Saint Louis of France and Saint Joseph Calazanz. Becoming king of France at the age of 12, Saint Louis imbued French culture with a deep sense of divine justice. Although he enjoyed the finer things in life, including good wine and food, he never lost sight of the poor. It was not uncommon for him to feed the less fortunate from his own table, but he felt this was not enough so he provided homes for them. The priest Saint Joseph Calazanz formed a religious order, the Clerks Regular of the Pious School, to set up free schools for the education of poor children. He believed that education would free the young from the dismal life of the slums.

What is Adoration? Adoration is adoring the Blessed Sacrament. It acknowledges the presence of Christ in the Eucharist (the Real Presence) outside of Mass (abiding presence). The container for the host in exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, commonly surmounted by a cross is call a Monstrance. The glass-sided, removable receptacle at the center, the luna, actually holds the host.
Adoration is held the first Wednesday of the month in Claflin from 9am-8pm, and every Wednesday in Ellinwood from 9am-7pm. This is a great opportunity to spend some quiet time with the Lord. Those who attend Adoration find it refreshing and worth the while. Time goes quickly while we are at prayer.
We have faithful volunteers who have signed up to spend an hour in prayer during Adoration, but more volunteers are needed. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to spend some time -- half hour, lunch break, even 15 minutes -- just stop by church between 9am - 7pm on the first Wednesday of the month in Claflin or every Wednesday in Ellinwood.
