Band

Students in grades 5/6/7/8 may particiapte in band through the Ellinwood public school system. Classes are held in the high school band room in conjunction with public school classes.

Vocal Music

Students in grades K-6 participate in music at St. Joseph Catholic School. Music programs are presented at Christmas and in the spring.  Students in grades 7 and 8 participate in music through public school elective classes.

Oration Contest

In the spring of each year, the Modern Woodman of America sponsor an oration contest for students in grades 5-8. Students write an essay on a topic selected by the Modern Woodman organization. Once the students complete their essay, they memorize it and present the speech before a panel of judges. After a preliminary round, seven finalist then compete for a chance to advance to the Diocesan level. One student from each of the six Diocesan schools participates in the competition in which a third, second, and first place winner is selected.

Vocation Poster Contest

The local Knights of Columbus council sponsors a vocation poster contest each year. Students in grades K-8 create a poster based upon a nationwide theme to increase vocations.

 

School Stewardship

Classroom Stewardship. Each month a different classroom gathers up their gear and heads to Woodhaven. Once there, students are matched up with a resident to play BINGO, create an art project, play a card game, or have a book read to them.
